Bremen Airport (BRE) is the main airport for the city and the state of Bremen. Most of the flights out of Bremen connect it to other German cities, large airports in Central and Western Europe, and holiday destinations in Southern Europe.

The airport is located 3.5 km south of Bremen's historic centre and still within the city limits. Travel time from the Arrivals Hall to the city's famous Market Square is just 20 minutes using public transport.

Bremen Airport handles around 2 million passengers per year, a rather small airport even by European standards, though still among the top 15 busiest airports in Germany.

Major Airlines - Ryanair, Lufthansa

Throughout most of the year, Ryanair is the largest airline at Bremen Airport. The low-cost giant mostly serves destinations in Spain, such as Alicante, Palma de Mallorca, and Málaga, as well as Zadar in Croatia and London-Stansted (STN).

Ryanair has a base at Bremen Airport.

Eurowings is another low-cost carrier with flights to and from Bremen, though limited. It flies direct to Stuttgart domestically and seasonally to Palma de Mallorca.

Lufthansa, the German flag carrier, operates multiple daily flights to Frankfurt and Munich. Being the airline’s two major hubs, this allows you to connect to hundreds of destinations worldwide.

Other full-service airlines that fly to Bremen year-round include Austrian Airlines (from Vienna), SWISS (to Zurich), KLM (from Amsterdam), and Turkish Airlines (from Istanbul).

The seasonal schedule is considerably denser in summer, as German holidaymakers create high demand for flights to seaside destinations. Airlines such as Sundair, Corendon Airlines, Aegean Airlines, and SunExpress fly to Greek islands, Turkey, Egypt, and Spanish holiday destinations.

Terminal Layout and Gates

Bremen Airport has a main terminal building split into three sections known as Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and Terminal 3. These three are interconnected, and you can walk between them without checks or leaving the building. Most airlines operate from this main terminal, and all main services can be found here.

There is also a separate Terminal E, just a few minutes away. It is used only by Ryanair flights and is stripped of most facilities. This facility has only 4 check-in counters and uses only walk-in boarding.

The terminals are open between 3:00 AM and 12:00 AM. You may stay inside overnight as long as you have a valid ticket.

Free Wi-Fi and other services

Bremen Airport provides free WiFi throughout all terminals. You may freely connect to the “TELECOM” network, which allows uninterrupted internet access for up to 3 hours.

  • ATMs: Several German banks have cash machines in Arrivals.

  • Prayer room: Located on the first floor of Terminal 1.

  • Travel agencies: More than 15 travel agencies are available at BRE. You can book trips directly at the airport, including last-minute offers and detailed long-distance trips.

  • Visitors' terrace: Open to the public daily during operating hours.

  • "Bremenhalle" Aviation Museum: See legendary aircraft and learn about the history of aviation in the gallery within the terminal.

Lounges at Bremen Airport

Bremen Airport has a high-quality, well-equipped lounge, located in Departures near gate A01.

Called simply The Lounge Bremen, it welcomes frequent flyers with Gold status from KLM, LH Group, and TK guests, those flying in business class, as well as holders of Priority Pass, Lounge Key, Lounge Pass, Diners Club, and ON Pass. Everyone else can enter by paying 30 EUR.

The lounge offers hot and cold meals, alcoholic and soft beverages, free Wi-Fi, and TVs. It’s open every day from 5 AM to 9 PM.

Dining Options at BRE

Bremen Airport offers places for both quick snacks and full-course meals. You can easily find cuisines such as Asian, Turkish, and Italian, too.

Some of the best dining options at BRE include:

  • Bierbar Roland: A Bremen-style bar in Departures A, airside. Open from 4 AM until the last departure.

  • Backshop Bäckerei Kamps: A bakery in Arrivals open 24/7.

  • Café Rosso: A cafe and dessert shop on the ground floor of Terminal 1. Open daily from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

  • Café Istanbul: Offers a selection of Turkish and Middle Eastern lunch specials and breakfast until 11:30 AM. It’s located on the first floor in the Gallery. Open from Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 2:30 PM.

  • Marktcafé: Serves a wide selection of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, and pastries. Located in Departures A (Schengen) and open from 4 AM until the last departure of the day.

  • Mayapapaya: Offers different soups and stews, from Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 4 PM.

  • Fresh Kitchen by Punto Pasta: Located on the ground floor of Terminal 1, this snack bar offers pizzas, pasta, antipasti, salads, and daily specials every day from 11 AM until 9 PM (on weekdays), 8 PM on Sunday, or 7 PM on Saturday.

There is also a McDonald’s branch just outside the terminal.

Transport to and from the airport

Bremen Airport is connected directly to the city by Tram Line 6. The trap stops immediately outside the terminal entrance.

Trams run every 10 minutes throughout the day, reaching Bremen Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) in 16 minutes and Domsheide, near the historic Old Town, in 11 minutes.

An alternative public transport option is Bus Line 52, which goes to Huchting and Kattenturm every 30 minutes.

An additional way to move between the airport and the city is to take a taxi outside of Arrivals. The 20-minute journey to the airport usually costs around 10 EUR.

Car rental companies have their desks in Terminal 3, across from Check-In. These include Avis, Budget, Enterprise, National, Alamo, Europcar, and Sixt. If you’re planning to explore more of northern Germany and the North Sea coast, renting a car is often the best option.

Parking at Bremen Airport

Bremen Airport offers three parking garages/lots:

  • Car Park P1: Ideal for short stays and located just 1 minute away from the terminal. The hourly rate starts at 3.30 EUR, while the daily rate is 22 EUR with further discounts for longer stays. P1 also offers Comfort Parking.

  • Car Park P2: More suited towards those wishing to park for 3 days or more. The hourly and daily rates are the same as P1 for short stays, but become cheaper if you’re parking for 3 days or more.

  • Parking Area P3: Intended for parking for at least 7 days and located 5 minutes away from the check-in area. This area has around 300 parking spaces and a dedicated zone for women drivers. It is bookable online only.

Hotels near Bremen Airport

The ATLANTIC Hotel Airport is located directly opposite the Terminal, making for the most convenient stay. The walk from reception to check-in is less than 2 minutes. Moreover, this 4-star hotel is very well-rated, the rooms are elegant, and the additional amenities are well-maintained.

Another nearby option is Holiday Inn Express Bremen Airport, located about 500 meters from the main terminal building. It’s a more budget-friendly accommodation with decently-sized modern rooms, and a liked breakfast buffet.

Given the airport’s proximity to the city center, even staying somewhere closer to the most popular sites in the city won’t be too far from the terminal.
