Soekarno–Hatta International Airport (CGK, also abbreviated SHIA or shortened to Soetta), is the primary airport serving the Greater Jakarta area on the island of Java in Indonesia.
The airport is named after Indonesia's first president, Sukarno, and its first vice-president, Mohammad Hatta, but is commonly referred to just as Jakarta Airport. Do not confuse it with Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport (HLP), a smaller airport in Jakarta that serves mostly domestic flights.
CGK airport is located approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Central Jakarta, near Tangerang in the province of Banten.
Soekarno-Hatta Airport is one of the busiest airports in Southeast Asia and the primary domestic airport in Indonesia. With over 35 million passengers in 2024, it’s a major hub of international travel too.
Major Airlines - Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia AirAsia, Citilink, Lion Air, Batik Air
The airport serves as a hub for several major airlines, including Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, and Indonesia AirAsia. Other regional airlines with a significant number of weekly fights are Super Air Jet, Citilink, and Batik Air.
It accommodates a wide array of international and domestic carriers, connecting Jakarta to destinations across the globe. There are direct flights to many destinations in Asia, the Middle East, Australia, and as far as Western Europe.
In total, over 50 different airlines use Soekarno-Hatta Airport with destinations all around the globe.

Terminal Layout and Gates
Soekarno–Hatta International Airport comprises three terminals:
Terminal 1: Primarily handles domestic flights. It has 3 wings (A, B, C) with 7 gates each.
Terminal 2: Converted into a Low-Cost Carrier Terminal. It has 3 sections (D, E, F) each with 7 gates.
Terminal 3 is the newest and most modern terminal. It primarily serves international flights by full-service airlines and is the main hub for Garuda Indonesia and Citilink. It has a vastly different design, more contemporary services, and eco-friendly technology. It has 10 international and 18 domestic gates.
The 3 terminals are connected by the SkyTrain as well as a free shuttle bus on the landside.
However, it’s not possible to travel between the terminals inside the transit area (airside).
Check out all destinations at CGK Airport.
Transit at Soekarno–Hatta Airport
If you have two flights booked together, i.e., the same PNR code, then transit at CGK is effectively the same as anywhere else—you will land and fly out of the same terminal, and your luggage will be checked in at your final destination.
If you have booked 2 flights separately, you may be able to transit without passing Immigration if both flights use the same terminal. In this case, approach a transfer desk for support.
However, if those 2 flights use different terminals, you will need to clear Immigration and Customs, travel to the new terminal, and clear them again to enter the departure area. If you require a visa to enter Indonesia, you will need to buy one at the airport (assuming you’re eligible).
Lastly, if you’re connecting an international flight to a domestic flight (or vice versa), remember that entry or departure Immigration procedures are always conducted at CGK airport.

Dining Options
Soekarno-Hatta Airport offers a variety of food options by mostly local brands and restaurant chains.

Auntie Anne’s: Fluffy pretzels and other doughy snacks. Find it in two locations inside T3.

Transport from the Airport to Jakarta
The airport is nearly 25 kilometers via roads to the central areas of Jakarta. This distance can be deceptively small for those unfamiliar with the city’s notorious traffic problem.
Fortunately, there exists a rail link that conveniently connects the airport to strategic railway and metro stations in the city.
The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Rail Link is the best way to travel between the airport and Jakarta.
The line runs from CGK to Manggarai Station stopping at Duri Station. Manggarai Station is one of the most strategic stations in Jakarta with connections to pretty much anywhere else. Prices are 50,000 IDR during peak hours and 30,000 IDR during off-peak hours, payment is only by card. The entire journey takes 56 minutes. To reach the airport station, follow the signs to “Skytrain”.
Other transport options from Jakarta Airport include:
Taxi and shuttle: Various taxi and shuttle services are provided by several operators. Taxi ranks are situated in front of each terminal. A ride to the city center typically takes about 45-60 minutes, but traffic can sometimes make a seemingly short journey way longer. Confirm with the driver that he will use a meter before agreeing to the ride. The biggest company with the most competitive rates is Bluebird.
Bus: While several bus companies operate between the airport and various locations in Jakarta, the state-owned DAMRI stands out as the most reliable and comfortable. Prices to the city center are 70.000 IDR and the journey takes 90 minutes on a good day but up to 3 hours in rush hour.
Grab/GoJek: Grab and GoJek are the two main rideshare companies in Indonesia. You can book a ride through their respective apps or at a booth in the arrivals areas of the airport. Prices are preset by the app and there are designated waiting and pick-up spots.

Parking
Jakarta Airport provides 3 different parking options:
Daily Parking: Located in front of each terminal. Ideal for short stays like picking up or dropping off passengers. The hourly rate is 10.000 IDR per hour for cars and a one-time fee of 5.000 IDR for motorcycles.
Overnight Parking 1: Situated in front of Building 601, this option is more cost-effective for longer parking. Rates are 6.000 IDR per hour, progressively increasing with longer stays. Capped at 80.000 IDR for the first day and 60.000 IDR for every day thereafter.
Overnight Parking 2: Situated in front of Terminals 1 and 2. The parking fee is 30.000 IDR for the first 4 hours, then 6.000 IDR for every additional hour.
Hotels
There are a few hotels directly at the airport and a few more right outside of the terminals.
In Terminal 1, you can stay at D'primahotel which is a straightforward airport hotel perfect for layovers or early morning flights.
In Terminal 2 a good option is the Jakarta Airport Hotel with its full-service amenities and soundproof rooms with runway views.
In Terminal 3 you have the biggest choice but Anara Airport International Hotel stands out for its stylish rooms, polished restaurant, a gym and spa.
Outside the airport’s premises, there are at least 20 different hotels for different budget preferences.
