Incheon International Airport (ICN) is South Korea's largest airport and the primary international airport serving the capital Seoul and the surrounding region.
It is located 48 kilometers west of central Seoul, on reclaimed land in the Yellow Sea.

Incheon Airport opened in 2001 to replace Gimpo Airport (GMP) as Seoul’s leading airport. The latter switched to serving low-cost airlines.
Since then, ICN has consistently been recognized for its excellence, efficiency, and comfort and is often awarded the title of 'Best Airport Worldwide'. In 2024, Incheon welcomed a record-breaking 71 million passengers, gaining 7 spots in the ranking for the world’s biggest airports and landing in position 13.
Major Airlines - Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Jeju Air
Incheon Airport is a hub for 9 airlines, including both commercial and cargo aviation.
On the forefront is Korean Air, the country’s flag carrier and the largest airline by fleet size. It flies to more than 100 destinations in Asia, North America, Oceania, and Europe.
Asiana Airlines is a major competitor with over 90 international and 14 domestic destinations.
The low-cost market is served by Jin Air, Air Seoul, and T’way Air, all of which use Incheon as a hub for operations. Jeju Air, albeit not based in Seoul, also operates many flights from ICN.
Additionally, it welcomes aircraft from numerous international carriers, such as Air France, American Airlines, KLM, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines, and others, together connecting Seoul to over 180 cities worldwide.

Terminal Layout and Gates
Incheon Airport has two terminals connected via a concourse. Both are state-of-the-art buildings with many facilities designed to make your journey faster, easier, and more enjoyable.
Terminal 1 (T1): The original and larger terminal, featuring 44 boarding gates. Since the inauguration of the newer terminal, T1 has been handling low-cost airlines plus all airlines in the OneWorld alliance.
Terminal 2 (T2): The newer terminal which opened in 2018. T2 serves Korean Air and most of its SkyTeam partners. Those which haven’t moved yet will do so when the latest improvements to the terminal are finished. Notably, the low-cost airline Jin Air also operates at T2.
Concourse: Located between T1 and T2, the concourse has additional boarding gates and is connected to the terminals via underground passageways.
In total, ICN has 111 gates: 44 in T1, 37 in T2, and 30 in the Concourse.

Connecting Flights and Transit at Incheon
Incheon International Airport consistently ranks among the world's top airports and is committed to providing top-class passenger satisfaction, especially when it comes to spending time at the airport during a layover.
Generally, airlines fly from either T1 or T2. If your two flights are booked under the same PNR, i.e. two tickets booked together, transit at ICN is incredibly straightforward and you need as little as 45 minutes. Your bags will be checked through to your final destination and you can remain in the airside area of the terminal.
Codeshare flights and special circumstances may result in you having to change terminals for your connecting flight. A shuttle train connects T1 with T2, stopping at the Concourse in between. You will remain airside for the entirety of your transfer.
This does not apply to tickets bought separately, in which case you will have to do a self-transfer by passing Immigration, re-checking for your flight, and entering the Security area once more.
If your layover is longer, you may consider hopping over to Seoul to explore. It’s recommended to have at least 8 hours between flights for that. See a list of things to do in Seoul!

Wi-Fi at Incheon
Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout Incheon Airport. You can connect by selecting the "AirportWifi" network and then following the on-screen procedures.
An alternative for those without a personal device is the free internet kiosks near Gates 25 and 29 in Terminal 1 (4th floor) and Gates 231 and 268 in Terminal 2 (4th floor).
Dining Options at Incheon Airport
Food and beverages are easy to come by at one of the world’s best airports - can’t have it any other way.
You will be spoiled for choice on where to eat: fast food joints, local Korean brands, well-known international chains, a coffee shop, or a fancy sit-down restaurant - it’s up to you, no matter which terminal you fly from or how much time you have.
For a place where lots of eateries are concentrated so you can choose on the spot, head to the CJ Food World at Terminal 1 (in the basement, near the train ticketing; landside) where you can pick from many restaurants serving Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, and Western cuisine.
Another popular place is the dedicated food court “Gourmet Bridge” on the fourth floor of Terminal 2. There, six restaurants serve Korean and international food.
Individual restaurants and fast-food outlets can be found near the departure gates too. Names such as Lotteria, Dunkin, McDonalds, Burger Hunter, and Taco Bell are present at ICN.
Some local brands you may want to try while at the airport include:
HANWOOGA: Fast food in T1, 4F.
Robot Gimbap: Korean food near Gate 15, T1, 3F.
SonSoo BanSang: Korean food near Gate 12, T1, 4F.
Goraesa: Fast food near Gate 15, T1, 3F.
Seoul Hotteok: A cafe for snacks, desserts, and drinks near Exit 12, T1, 3F.
Many other dining options exist at the airport for you to discover and try. Note that as a rule of thumb, restaurants after Security are more expensive than the ones before.

Lounges at Seoul Incheon Airport
Various VIP lounges serve premium passengers before their flights from Incheon Airport.
There are airline-specific lounges such as the Korean Air Lounge near Gate 28 in Terminal 1 and the Korean Air Prestige East Lounge near Gate 253 in Terminal 2 both offering premium amenities, a superb buffet of complimentary food and drinks, and other exclusive perks for first and business class travelers.
Priority Pass holders, members of various other programs, and even regular fliers can also enjoy one of the other lounges at ICN:
Matina Lounges: The first lounge of this brand is located near Gate 11 on the fourth floor of Terminal 1, operating from 07:00 to 22:00, although the buffet, arguably its best offering, closes at 21:30. The second lounge is near Gate 43 on the fourth floor and the third Matina lounge is in Terminal 2 near Gate 252 on 4F.
Sky Hub Lounges: Two lounges in Terminal 1 are ready to welcome guests with fully stocked bars, high-speed Wi-Fi, and comfy places to work or relax. The first is just by passport control in the East Wing (open between 7 AM and 10 PM) and the second is near Gate 42 near the transit counter (open 24/7 with a downtime of an hour at 21:30 for cleaning).
Lounge L: located beside Gate 231 in T2, F4, this lounge is open between 6 AM and 10 PM daily. It offers much the same amenities; notably, a great selection of alcoholic beverages and a wonderful buffet of hot dishes throughout the day.
Transport to and from Incheon Airport
Although the airport is located on an artificial island and almost 50 km from the capital Seoul, it is incredibly well-connected to it by a variety of transport options.
The Airport Railroad Express (AREX) is easily the most used and most convenient mass transit. It offers both express and all-stop services with separate boarding zones and a difference in ticket prices. The train stops at Gimpo Airport (among other stations) and terminates at Seoul Station. The total journey time on the slow service is 66 minutes.

Bus services are the other transport option to get to Seoul and other destinations in the region. Numerous limousine and standard buses operate different routes.
At Terminal 1, you can purchase bus tickets from the ticket booths located inside the terminal (next to exits 4 and 9) and outside the terminal (near exits 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, and 13).
If you want more privacy or to get directly to your destination without changing transport, taking a taxi can hardly be any easier than at ICN.
Two companies - International Taxis and Smart Taxi - provide services exclusively to foreigners, and a few other companies are open to all. Prices are quite affordable, given the distance and various surcharges - a trip to central Seoul costs between 40.000 and 90000 KRW (~25 to 60 USD).
Lastly, if you’d like to be totally flexible, you can rent a car from one of the several car rental agencies that have counters at the airport.
All of those options are available within the Transport Center at the airport, near both T1 and T2.
Parking at Incheon Airport
Incheon Airport offers extensive parking facilities near both terminal buildings.
Near Terminal 1:
For stays of up to 1 day, you are best off using the Short-term Parking. It is reserved exclusively for passenger cars and spread over 4 levels, located right in front of Terminal 1. The first 10 minutes are free, then every 15 minutes are charged 600 KRW (0.4 USD). The daily rate is 24.000 KRW (~16 USD).
The Long-term Parking, on the other hand, is just a little bit farther from the terminals but connected via a regular Free Lift Car Service. Parking there is also free for the first 10 minutes, then 1000 KRW per hour maxed at 9000 KRW per day.
Near Terminal 2:
The short-term parking option is opposite T2. It’s spread over 6 levels and features over 5000 parking spots.
The long-term parking is down the road on the west side and offers over 1200 parking spots.
Prices for parking in T1 and T2 are the same. You can pay via:
Self-service machines
Mobile app
Manned booth
Unmanned booth
Electric vehicle charging stations with varying speeds and numbers are available at all parking lots except T1’s short-term parking.

Hotels near Incheon Airport
Hotels are abundant in and around Seoul’s Incheon Airport.
As a major transit airport and often ranked the best in Asia, there are two wonderful options for sleeping inside the terminals:
Incheon Airport Transit Hotel (Terminal 1): Located within the departure lounge of Terminal 1 with comfortable soundproof rooms, free Wi-Fi, 24-hour check-in services, and private bathroom facilities. Amazing value for money if in transit.
Incheon Airport Transit Hotel (Terminal 2): Much the same value but in T2. Almost unparalleled level of dedication and genuine kindness from the staff!
For a simple option outside of Terminal 2, you can check out Capsule Hotel 'Darakhyu' which offers surprisingly cozy pods with adjustable air conditioning.
An upscale, luxury option near Terminal 1 is the Grand Hyatt Incheon. It offers a shuttle to the terminal building and its 5-star status is well-deserved for the variety and quality of its facilities and the staff’s helpfulness.
