Leipzig/Halle Airport (LEJ) is a mid-sized airport in Central Germany.
It is located in Schkeuditz, roughly midway between the cities of Leipzig (18 km) and Halle (20 km). Either can be reached by direct trains in about 15 minutes.

While it only handles 2-3 million passengers per year, mostly to sea & sand destinations and seasonal charters, it is one of Europe’s largest cargo airports and is DHL Express’s main hub in Europe.
Major Airlines - Marabu, Lufthansa
Lufthansa operates year-round, twice-daily flights to Frankfurt (FRA), allowing you to connect to hundreds of destinations in Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa.

Other important year-round links are to Istanbul by Turkish Airlines, to Palma de Mallorca by Eurowings, and to Vienna by Austrian Airlines.
Leipzig/Halle Airport sees a lot more flights during the summer. The airline with the most seasonal flights is Marabu - an Estonian leisure airline with routes to Madeira in Portugal, the Canary Islands of Spain, and Crete in Greece.

Other leisure airlines at LEJ include AJet, Pegasus, and SunExpress (to Turkish destinations), Air Cairo (to Egyptian destinations), and Nouvelair (to Tunisian destinations).

Terminal Layout and Gates
Leipzig/Halle Airport has one terminal divided into two check-in halls, known as Terminal A and Terminal B. Everything is within one building, including a covered corridor that leads to the station and the main parking garage. From the entrance to the airport to the farthest gates, you won’t have to walk more than 300 meters.
There is only one Security checkpoint that leads to a single transit area for all Schengen flights. Additional passport control separates the few gates set aside for non-Schengen flights.
The Ground Level has all check-in desks, while the Upper Floor has Departures and all 6 gates.
The airport is open 24/7.
Free Wi-Fi and other services
The airport offers free WiFi throughout all public areas of the terminal, courtesy of the “Telekom" network. To use, connect to the “Cloud Network” - no registration is required. However, the wi-fi is only free for up to 2 hours per day.
If you have a SIM card from another EU country, you can use it as if you were in your own country - no roaming charges apply.
Other passenger services at LEJ include:
ATMs: Leipzig Sparkasse Bank has a cash machine in the check-in area. There is also a cash machine in Arrivals dispensing US dollars or British pounds.
Information Desk: Located near the entrance to the terminal. Also offers storage for small items costing 3 EUR per day.
First aid stations: available in 6 places throughout the terminal.
Lost&Found: Located in Arrivals. It is only responsible for items lost within the Terminal. If you lost or forgot something on a plane, contact the airline.
Postal services: You can mail postcards at Eckert Newsagents, located on the Ground Floor of Terminal B.
Prayer rooms: There is a Christian chapel on the 1st Floor and a Muslim prayer room near the west entrance. Both are open 24/7.

Lounges at LEJ
There is one small, independent lounge at the airport - the aptly named The Lounge Leipzig/Halle.
It accepts the most popular lounge membership passes, or you can pay 40 EUR at the door to enter.
Inside, you will find hot and cold snacks (rolls, cold cuts, scrambled eggs, cheese, fruit, etc.), lots of soft drink options, a fully-automated coffee machine, chairs or couches for sitting, and plenty of electrical plug sockets.
Dining Options at Leipzig/Halle Airport
Before Security, in the public area of the airport, there is Bakery Kamps, which sells sandwiches and coffee.
After Security, airside, the Marché Restaurant serves pizzas, pastas, salads, and regional foods from 10 AM to 5 PM.
Another option for a lunch meal is Bistro "Ju 52", which is located in the Check-in area and open from 5 AM to 1 PM.
For something quick, most travelers get a sandwich from either Marché Sandwich Manufaktur or Subway, both in Terminal B, which are open until 7 PM and 8 PM, respectively.
Other outlets at LEJ include Zigolini Caffe & Bar for coffee or beer, and Jannys Eis for various sweets and desserts, including ice cream, waffles, yogurt, and cakes.
The Ground Floor of Terminal B also houses an Eckert's, where you can buy newspapers, magazines, books, souvenirs, and tobacco.
Transport to and from the airport
Trains are the main form of transportation to/from LEJ, because the airport has its own railway station, located directly beneath the terminal. It can be reached via escalators and elevators straight from Arrivals.
Regional S-Bahn services (S5 and S5X) connect the airport with Leipzig Hauptbahnhof in 14 minutes and Halle Hauptbahnhof in 10 minutes. The same lines terminate at Zwickau or Altenburg and stop at several other stations in between. Tickets cost 5.40 EUR and allow transfers within 3 zones for up to 120 minutes. You can buy one from the ticket machines at the station.

Long-distance ICE trains also stop at the airport station, providing connections to cities across Germany. For example, Berlin is about 1.5 hours away, while Munich, Frankfurt, and Hamburg are each around 3.5 hours away.
Flixbus has several long-distance bus lines that stop at Leipzig Airport, namely:
N66 towards Vienna, Austria.
N1917 towards Niš, Serbia.
N1367 towards Alkmaar, Netherlands.

During the night, there is an NXL night bus service. It runs twice in each direction:
From Leipzig Central Station at 0:50 and 02:22
From the airport at 01:35 and 03:05.
The night bus stops in Eutritzsch, Gohlis, Möckern, and Lindenthal.
Taxis are an ever-present option outside Arrivals, though both slower and much more expensive than the train. Expect to pay 35-50 EUR for a 30-40-minute journey to either city (Leipzig or Halle).
If you’re planning on exploring more of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia, renting a car becomes a viable option. At LEJ, you can pick from Avis/Budget, Europcar, or SIXT.
Parking at Leipzig/Halle Airport
The airport provides several parking garages and surface lots.
For simply picking up or dropping off passengers, you may use:
The Kiss & Fly zone right in front of the terminal. It’s free for up to 10 minutes.
P11: Located directly in front of the central check-in area. Costs 1.50 EUR for 30 minutes or 3 EUR for an hour of stay.
P1: An outdoor parking lot just a few minutes from the entrance to the terminal. The first 10 minutes are free. Up to 30 minutes costs 3 EUR.
P3: Another outdoor lot adjacent to P1. Also offers free stays up to 10 minutes per day with the same pricing structure as P1 thereafter.
For tourists, the following parking facilities are the most useful:
The Parking Garage: Best for short stays, with charges starting at 3 EUR for the first 10 minutes, 8 EUR for the first hour, or 11 EUR for 2 hours. The daily cap is 64 EUR, but the weekly rate is a competitive 120 EUR, and 4 weeks cost only 238 EUR.
P2: An outdoor parking lot recommended if you’re going on holiday for a longer time. Costs 60 EUR for the first day, but the average daily rate quickly drops afterwards: 95 EUR per week or 200 EUR for 4 weeks.
P7: Park in the immediate vicinity of the terminal. Costs 60 EUR for the first day and 5 EUR for each additional day.
P21: Another option near the terminal with limited spots. Costs 65 EUR for the first day plus 5 EUR for each additional day.
P4: A holiday car park only 500 m from check-in. Has an hourly charge of 5 EUR, but the price truly shines for longer periods - 85 EUR per week or 172 EUR per 28 days.
P15: Another budget-friendly parking option, also about 500 meters from the check-in area. Costs 40 EUR for the first day plus 5 EUR for each additional day (175 EUR for 28 days).
P20: located in the village of Kursdorf, about a 15-minute walk from the check-in area. This is the cheapest parking option for longer stays - 44 EUR for the first day plus 3 EUR each additional day (104 EUR for 21 days).
There are also various private car parks around the airport, though their prices are rarely much lower than the official lots at LEJ.
Hotels near Leipzig Airport
Due to the direct rail connection, it’s often best to stay in either Leipzig or Halle themselves.
Even for very early flights, you have the option of taking the night bus and arriving at the airport in time.
Still, if you’d like to stay near the airport, you can do so easily. The Campanile Leipzig Halle Airport is located mere meters from the terminal and offers basic but affordable and adequate rooms, especially for overnight layovers.
Another popular choice is the Globana Airport Hotel. It is a short drive south of the terminal. It offers larger rooms with more natural light and higher-quality amenities for a slightly higher price.
