The airport is about 7 miles southeast of Liverpool city center. It was originally known as Speke Airport before becoming the first UK airport to be named after a person in 2001 to honor John Lennon, a member of The Beatles.

Terminal Layout of LPL
Liverpool Airport has a single terminal that can handle only about 7 million travelers annually. It’s small and compact and the Arrivals and Departures halls are only a short walking distance of each other.
The airport doesn’t have jetbridges or travelators and boarding the aircraft requires walking to the plane. Departures and arrivals are both on the same level of the airport.
Connecting Flights and Transit at Liverpool Airport
Liverpool John Lennon Airport does not have any facilities for airside transit. All transits are the responsibility of travelers and are not protected by the airlines.
If you fly into LPL and then have another flight you will need to clear Immigration and Customs, exit through the arrivals area, check-in for your next flight, and proceed through security again for your departing flight.

The 500 Bus Service connects the airport to Liverpool ONE bus station in the center of the city. It runs every 30 minutes from 4 AM to midnight.
Buse lines 80A, 82A, and 86A also run between the airport and Liverpool ONE whereas lines 89 and 3A terminate at St Helens Bus Station.
Coach companies like National Express and Megabus connect Liverpool Airport to other cities in Britain like Manchester, Cardiff, and Birmingham.
The nearest train station is Liverpool South Parkway, approximately 3 miles from the airport. Bus services 80A and 86A connect the airport to the station every 7-8 minutes. At the station, you can connect to the national rail network and regional lines that offer services to many regional destinations.
You can always opt for a taxi instead. Licensed hackney carriages (commonly known as black cabs) are readily available at designated pickup points outside the terminal. Other independent taxi companies are also present at the airport.
