Václav Havel Airport Prague is the Czech Republic’s primary international gateway. 11 out of every 12 international passengers flying to the Czech Republic use Prague Airport.
The airport sits about 12 km west of the city centre, near the village of Kněževes. It’s a compact, easy-to-use airport with two terminals connected by a short indoor corridor inside a single building.
In 2024, Prague Airport welcomed over 16 million passengers, approaching its record of nearly 18 million in 2019. It ranked among the 40 busiest airports in Europe.

Major Airlines - Smartwings
Smartwings, the largest Czech airline and, since 2024, the unofficial flag carrier, dominates the airport with its 50+ routes and nearly 1000 monthly flights.

Ryanair, the largest European low-cost airline, comes a close second, offering many short-haul destinations.
Other low-cost airlines with a notable number of monthly flights include the German Eurowings, the British easyJet, and the Hungarian Wizz Air.
European national carriers serving Prague include Lufthansa, Aer Lingus, Austrian Airlines, KLM, TAP Air Portugal, and others.
International airlines present at PRG include Korean Air, Delta Air Lines, Etihad Airways, and Turkish Airlines.

Terminal Layout and Gates
PRG has two main passenger terminals, both in one connected complex.
Terminal 1 handles non-Schengen flights. Concourses A and B can be found here. Most European carriers are here.
Terminal 2 handles Schengen-area flights. It includes Concourse C and D. All international carriers flying to destinations outside of the Schengen Area use T2.
Walking between T1 and T2 takes only a few minutes via the central corridor, which is lined with shops and other services.
There also exists Terminal 3 for private and charter flights and Terminal 4 for VIP flights and state visits, but neither is used commercially.
A notable quirk is that in T1, security screening is performed at the individual gate areas, whereas in T2, there’s a central security checkpoint immediately after passport control.

Connecting Flights and Transit
If transferring within Schengen, just stay within Terminal 2. These connections are treated as domestic, and there are no additional Security or Immigration checks. The minimum connecting time is 25 minutes.
Those with a Schengen to non-Schengen (or vice versa) connection should use the short signposted corridor between T2 and T1 with the appropriate passport control. The minimum connecting time in this case is 40 minutes.
Remember the security difference: T1 screens at the gates, T2 screens centrally after Immigration.
Most low-cost airlines do not offer connecting flights. Thus, if you are transiting at Prague Airport between two low-cost flights, you are fully responsible for making the connection. Therefore, no delays that result in you missing your second flight can be reimbursed. If you’re self-connecting, allow extra time between the two flights, especially if you travel with checked-in luggage.
During longer layovers, you may go to the city and explore the sights. Prague is a very vibrant tourist hotspot and well worth the trip from the airport, even for just a short while. Check out some of the best things to do in Prague.

Wi-Fi
Free airport Wi-Fi with the SSID “Prague Airport WiFi Free” is available throughout both terminals and the connecting hall. The signal is generally reliable in gate areas, food courts, and lounges.
Dining Options
Food is available across both terminals, with a wider selection after Security.
If you want something Czech before you go, the Pilsner Urquell Original Restaurant has outlets airside. It serves high-quality Czech beer as well as some national dishes.
Alongside it, you will find familiar international chains like KFC, PAUL, Burger King, and Starbucks. For a local fast food brand, try Bageterie Boulevard and their specialty sandwiches.
Coffee bars, bakeries, and quick-service spots are available in both terminals. Landside, the connecting hall between T1 and T2 features additional cafés and fast food options for those meeting arriving passengers or if you have reached the airport early.
Other dining options at Prague Airport include:
Restaurace Runway in Terminal 1 (both before and after Security) for a selection of local dishes, breakfasts, and homemade desserts.
Natoo in Terminal 1 (Pier B and Pier C) for healthy food.
Marché Pasta & Salad in Terminal 1 (airside) for fresh salads and pasta.
Bottega Prosecco Bar in Terminal 1, Pier B, for an elegant prosecco bar serving pasta, meats, salads, and desserts, including vegan options.
Lounges at Prague Airport
Both terminals have at least one pay-in lounge with card-program access.
In Terminal 1 (non-Schengen), the Mastercard Lounge sits airside and serves most major lounge networks and day-pass guests. It offers all-inclusive food and drinks, views of the runway, and a kids’ area. Note that this lounge is only for those flying out of Schengen. A two-hour pass costs CZK 860 (~35 EUR).
In Terminal 2 (Schengen), the ERSTE Premier Lounge is the primary option, likewise accessible via eligible cards or paid entry for the same price. This lounge is for those traveling within Schengen.
Alternatively, also at Terminal 2, you can stay at the FastTrack Lounge, which has its own security checkpoint with individual screening. The 2-hour pass costs CZK 1020 (~42 EUR).
Transport to and from PRG
Reaching the city, just 12 km away, is straightforward using buses or taxis. Here’s a breakdown of available transport options.
Airport Express (AE): A dedicated bus links both terminals with Praha hlavní nádraží (Main Station, Metro Line C) in roughly 40 minutes. Stops are right outside the terminal doors. Tickets are sold by the driver, or you can pay contactless - CZK 100 for a single ticket.
- Public buses (PID): Several buses serve the airport:
Bus 59 to Nádraží Veleslavín (connects to Metro Line A)
Bus 100 to Zličín (connects to Metro Line B).
Services run frequently. Buy a PID ticket before boarding from machines or kiosks and validate once on board. Tickets are for a selected duration, the shortest being 30 minutes (CZK 30). There are also day passes, for example, 24 hours for CZK 120.
Taxis & rideshare: Designated taxi stands sit outside Arrivals. Fares are around CZK 800-1000 to the city center.
App-based rides (e.g., Uber and Bolt) are also available curbside. Fares tend to be a bit cheaper - anywhere from CZK 400 to CZK 900, depending on distance, demand, and the type of vehicle.

Hotels at Prague Airport
If you need to stay inside the airport, AeroRooms offers compact rooms inside the terminal complex, with both landside and airside (T1) access. This is a handy option for overnight layovers or super-early flights.
Outside the terminal, Courtyard by Marriott Prague Airport is directly between T1 and T2 and linked by a covered walkway. This is the nearest full-service hotel to the airport, and the prices normally match the location.
A slightly cheaper alternative is the Holiday Inn Prague Airport, which is also within the airport premises, about a 6-minute walk away.
