Pisa International Airport (PSA), officially Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport, is a mid-size Italian airport. It is one of the two international airports in Tuscany, the other one being Florence Peretola Airport (FLR).
The airport is located only about 1 km from the city centre. It’s easy to reach Florence, Siena, Lucca, and the Tuscan coast directly from the airport.

In 2025, Pisa Airport handled just short of 6 million passengers. Traffic is dominated by low-cost carriers with year‑round flights across Europe and an increased summer schedule.
Major Airlines - Ryanair, easyJet
Most flights at PSA are operated by low-cost carriers such as Ryanair, easyJet, and Wizz Air. These three airlines offer hundreds of flights monthly to over 60 destinations combined.

Other LCCs that have flights to and from Pisa around the year include Transavia (Amsterdam, Paris), Volotea (Toulouse, Nantes, Olbia), Flydubai (Dubai), and Air Arabia (Casablanca).
British Airways is one of the few full-service airlines to have a flight to Pisa in every season, courtesy of its once-weekly service to London-Heathrow.
Traffic peaks in the summer, when airlines like Norwegian Air Shuttle, Jet2.com, and Eurowings start flying to and from PSA, and the ones listed above add more routes.
Pisa is Tuscany’s busiest airport and is served by more than 20 airlines.

Terminal Layout and Gates
PSA has only 1 passenger terminal, spread over two levels:
Ground Floor houses Arrivals, Baggage reclaim, and Customs.
The First Floor is dedicated to Departures, as is standard in most airports. Here are the check-in area, Security, Departures, and gates.
The airport handles both Schengen and non-Schengen flights. After Security, there is an area with restaurants that any ticketed passenger can visit. After that is Passport control, which leads to the non-Schengen gates. Walking distances are short - typically less than 5 minutes to the farthest gates.
Connections are treated as independent flights because Pisa Airport is not a transfer hub and does not have an airside transit area. You will have to leave the Arrivals area and clear Security again on the way to your next gate.
Pisa Airport has 16 boarding gates:
Gates 1 to 11 are used by Schengen flights.
Gates 21 to 25 are used by non‑Schengen flights.
Only Gate 23 is equipped with a jetbridge, while others use walk or bus boarding.
The airport opens at 4 AM and closes after the last flight of the day. You cannot remain inside the terminal overnight.

Free Wi-Fi and other services
Pisa Airport provides free Wi‑Fi in all areas of the terminal. To connect, select the “SAT-wifi-FREE” network and follow the instructions. The connection lasts only 60 minutes, but you can freely reconnect afterwards.
Other passenger services at PSA include:
ATMs in both Arrivals and Departures.
Banking: Cassa di Risparmio di Pisa Bank is located on the First Floor.
Currency exchange provided by Forex, located in the Check-in Hall and in Arrivals.
Family Room, with facilities for those with children, is near the ticket office. Most toilets have baby changing stations.
Chapel on the first floor.
Pharmacy: Farmacie Comunali Pisa is on the Ground Floor in Check-in Hall A.
First‑aid station in the Check-in Area.
Luggage wrapping in the Check-in Area.
Tourist Information desk in Arrivals. Open from 7 AM to 11 PM.
Lost&Found in the Baggage Reclaim area. Open from 8 AM to 9 PM daily.
Luggage storage: Available between 8 AM and 8 PM. Charges a 10 EUR daily rate for small items, 15 eur daily for larger, and 25 EUR for oversized luggage.
Fast Lane service worth 12 EUR.

Lounges at Pisa Airport
The Galilei VIP Lounge is the only lounge at PSA. It is located airside on the first floor after Security.
The lounge is open daily from 8 AM until 8 PM, though it may close early, after the last flight of the day. It offers comfortable seating and workspaces, a self‑service open bar, faster Wi‑Fi, reading materials, TVs, and is air-conditioned.
Members of accredited programs like Priority Pass are welcome, as is any other passenger who pays the €35 entry fee at the door. Kids under 3 enter for free.
Dining Options at PSA
Dining options at Pisa Airport include espresso bars, cafés, snack counters, bars, fast food, restaurants, and vending machines throughout the terminal.
There are places to eat and drink both before and after the Security check.
Some of the notable dining options at PSA include:
Steak House “Mastro Bistecca”: Serves Tuscan‑style grilled dishes in a typical Tuscan ‘tavern’ ambiance. Located on the first floor of Departures, airside.
Buoni & belli: Offers gourmet sandwiches, charcuterie platters, truffle products, red wines by the glass, and more on the Ground Floor in the gates area.
Al Volo: A place for a quick meal in Arrivals. Offers coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and paninis.
Briciole, Stortellini & Pizza Flor: Go for the panoramic view on the runway, stay for the coffee, sandwiches, pizzas, and tortellini. Located on the Ground Floor of the gates area.
Pisa Airport Cafe: One of the earliest to open (4:30 AM) and last to close (00:30 AM) cafes at PSA. Located in Departures, Ground Floor, and serves oven-baked pizza, sandwiches, salads, and more. Allows for open-air dining in its garden.
Ristorante Self Service "Gusto" Chef Express: A unique self-service concept where you can get anything from entrées to main meals, fresh fruit and veggies, and desserts. Located on the First Floor of Departures.
Notable mentions to the king of fast food, McDonald’s (first floor of Departures), and Briciole (ground floor of Departures), where you can buy a variety of savoury pastries like focaccias and sandwiches.
For basic snack food and refreshments, you can search for one of the vending machines within the terminal.
Transport to and from the airport
Pisa Airport is one of the closest international airports to the city they serve! You can easily walk from the terminal to the city center in less than 35 minutes! The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a mere 3.3 km away.
If walking isn’t suitable and/or you have loads of luggage, you can take the PisaMover train: A driverless shuttle that runs between PSA and Pisa Centrale railway station every 5-8 min, taking around 5 min. This service is available between 6 AM and midnight (1 AM from 1.06 to 30.09).

The drawback is that it’s quite expensive for the short 1 km journey - single tickets cost 6.50 EUR. In this case, taxis are actually cheaper if you’re at least 2 people, with the fare fixed at 10.80 EUR (day) / 13.90 EUR (night). The PisaMover is only worth it if you buy a combined ticket for it and a long-distance train (e.g., to Florence).
Talking of taxis, their rank is immediately outside Arrivals, and taxis are available 24/7. The only official company at the airport is Cooperativa Pisana Tassisti – CO.TA.PI. Fares to Piazza Del Duomo are fixed at 14.50 EUR (day) or 17.60 EUR (night). Taxis will use the meter for all other destinations in the city (base fare is 3.90 EUR).
A budget-friendly alternative is to take advantage of Pisa’s public transportation network. Tickets for any bus within the city cost 1.70 EUR:
Bus 3+: Stops at the airport but only when coming from the city, then makes a long loop before going back. Buses come every 10 minutes from 6:10 AM to 8:45 PM.
Line 5: Stops at the airport but only when going to the city. Buses come every 20 minutes from 6:20 AM to 8:20 PM.
Line 21: Stops at the airport in both directions but only runs in the evening between 8:43 PM and 11:13 PM (every 30 minutes).
At Pisa Centrale Station, you can connect to regional and national rail services, including direct links to Florence, Livorno, and the Tuscan countryside. Buy your ticket at the machines before boarding or online, which is recommended especially during the summer. Combined tickets for the PisaMover and a train are available too.
If you’re going to Florence (Firenze) directly, you can also take the Sky Bus Linea Caronna directly from Pisa Airport. Tickets cost 14.99 EUR for a journey time of 1 hour.
Direct buses to Siena and Lucca are also available, but less frequently than trains.
If you want to explore Tuscany by yourself, you can also rent a car from one of the companies present at PSA. The car rental center is around 500 meters away from the terminal, near the P6 parking lot. A free shuttle runs between the Terminal (in front of P6) and the car rental center. Companies offering services at PSA include international giants like Avis, Budget, Europcar, and Hertz, as well as local brands like Italy Car Rent, Maggiore, Sicily By Car, and Drivalia.

Hotels near Pisa Airport
Given how close the airport is to the city, the term "airport hotel" loses its meaning when talking about Pisa.
Most visitors stay in the city, whether in the old parts near the river or the newer areas south of the railway tracks.
If you need unbeatable proximity to PSA, you can check out the Blue Shades apart-Hotel, which is less than 10 minutes on foot to the terminal entrance. With its 4 stars, modern rooms, and contemporary decor, it’s a popular choice for midrange budgets.
More budget-conscious travelers can stay in one of the smaller B&Bs or houses with rooms to rent. Examples include B&B Francesco, Etruria Airport Apartment, and A Casa di Lucia.
