Chișinău Eugen Doga International Airport (RMO) is Moldova’s only certified international airport with year-round regular passenger flights.

The airport is located 13 km southeast of central Chișinău. It takes roughly 25 minutes to drive between RMO and the city center.

A birds-eye view of Chișinău Airport.

Chișinău Airport has changed a lot in recent years. Passenger traffic has surged from under 1 million yearly to more than 6 million in 2025, following the collapse of many regional air links caused by the war in neighboring Ukraine, as well as the start of numerous routes by some of Europe’s most popular low-cost carriers.

Major Airlines - Fly One, Wizz Air

Most flights at Chișinău Airport are operated by one of three airlines, all of which use the airport as a hub/base:

  • FlyOne: The largest airline in Moldova. Serves more than 30 destinations via low-cost flights.

  • HiSky: Another large Moldovan low-cost airline. Offers direct flights to more than a dozen cities in Europe.

  • Wizz Air: The Eastern European low-cost giant returned to Chișinău Airport for good in late 2024. It has since grown as the airport’s largest airline, offering up to 500 flights per month to over 30 destinations.

Chișinău Airport increased in popularity a lot after Wizz Air started regular services to it from over 30 destinations in Europe.

Moldova’s former flag carrier, Air Moldova, suspended all its operations in 2023. Thus, full-service connectivity to larger cities in Europe is served by large national carriers such as Turkish Airlines, Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Aegean Airlines, and TAROM.

RMO Airport has improved its network immensely in recent years. You can now reach more than 70 destinations directly and reach the entire world with just 1 layover via Istanbul, Frankfurt, Vienna, Warsaw, etc.

Terminal Layout and Gates

Chișinău Airport operates from one small terminal. It’s been extensively refurbished and has a modern feel. It’s easy to navigate, is uncluttered, and offers plenty of seating.

There is only one Security checkpoint and too few passport control boxes. Most of the time, going through both checks takes no more than 15 minutes, but if multiple flights coincide, it can quickly get crowded. In this case, Security can take up to 40 minutes, and Immigration up to 30 minutes more.

As of 2026, digital boarding passes are accepted, and you no longer have to exchange for a paper one.

Airside, there is a large waiting area around which are the 15 gates, numbered from 1 to 15, a few places to buy food or drinks from, and several other amenities.

Lounges at RMO

The only premium lounge at the airport is simply called the Business Lounge. It is located upstairs after Security and passport control, near the Golden Jet Restaurant. Access is available through Priority Pass, Dragon Pass, to holders of premium Mastercard or Visa cards, or by paying 35 EUR at the door. It is open 24/7.

The Business Lounge offers buffet meal service, Moldovan wine, soft drinks, coffee machines, showers, workstations, and quieter seating areas.

At Chișinău Airport, there is also a truly executive lounge called the Senator Lounge. It includes private processing, dedicated assistance via a personal concierge, business workstations, refreshments, limousine transfers, plus other premium perks. It’s located in a separate terminal before Security and includes a fast track.

Dining Options at Chișinău Airport

The best-known place to eat at the airport is the Golden Jet Restaurant. It is located airside, just after the Immigration check, within the waiting area. You can order Moldovan dishes, soups, grilled meats, salads, sandwiches, beer, and coffee.

Also in Departures, it’s worth noting the Airport Café. It offers hot pastries, croissants, Moldovan pies (placinte), wraps and sandwiches, fresh salads, and desserts. There is also a kids’ area equipped with play stations, educational games, and a soft playground, and manned with professional animators.

In Arrivals, the public area, you can grab a cup of coffee from the Welcome Café, located near the parking exit. It’s perfect if you’re waiting for friends or family to arrive from abroad.

Transport to and from the airport

Public transportation is available via one trolleybus line and one bus line:

  • Trolleybus Route 30 stops right in front of the terminal and connects it with central Chișinău, terminating near the main square of the city, Piața Marii Adunări Naționale.

  • Bus Line 33 stops on the main road near the airport (Strada Aeroportului), about 250 meters from the terminal. In the city, the bus stops at Dispeceratul ISMAIL and the railway station.

Both the trolleybus and the bus have a frequency of around 15-20 minutes, between roughly 6 AM and 11 PM. Tickets cost 6 MDL, sold by the conductor on board, cash or card.

Another option is Minibus #165, which also goes to Strada Ismail, southeast of the city centre.

Taxis are available in front of the terminal 24/7. Aeroport Taxi company has a 24/7 office in the Arrivals Hall.

Official taxis should use the meter, but drivers may still try to negotiate a fixed price beforehand - it’s always cheaper to stick to the meter. Note that most drivers’ English is very limited, if at all. A trip to the city center typically costs around 100-120 MDL.

Yandex Go and Hip are the most popular ridesharing apps in Moldova. Trips using them usually cost less than traditional taxis - around 70-100 MDL to the city center.

If you’d like to explore more of Moldova on your own, especially the countryside, you may consider renting a car directly at the airport. Five companies have desks at the airport: Hertz, Sixt, GoodRent, Prim-Auto, and City Auto Rent.

Parking at RMO

Chișinău Airport has a modern four-level parking garage with around 800 spaces, of which more than 550 are covered. It’s right in front of the terminal and takes less than 3 minutes to walk between them.

Parking for the first 30 minutes is free. After that, each hour costs 20-30 MDL, up to a daily cap of 300 MDL. Stays longer than a week cost 480 MDL per day. Pay at one of the payment machines installed at all four levels before you exit the facility.

Hotels near Chișinău Airport

There are no hotels within the airport grounds. The closest nearby options are located in the nearby village, about 2.5 km from the airport. For example, the Aero Hotel is a cozy and convenient hotel that offers a 24/7 complimentary shuttle.

The closest upscale property is the Prezident Hotel, about 5 km from the terminal. It’s often frequented by foreign diplomats and VIPs and also offers airport transfers.

The new and modern ibis Styles Chisinau is not far either - just 4 km. It’s a 3-star property that offers predictable amenities from a global brand.

Many other hotels are located in central Chișinău. Because the airport is relatively close and few flights, if any, depart before 6 AM, most travelers stay in the city center instead of close to the airport.
