Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) is the primary international gateway to Puerto Rico, serving the capital city of San Juan and its metropolitan area. Although not the only airport on the island, it’s the largest, most accessible, and most well-known, so people usually mean SJU when they say “Puerto Rico Airport”.
The airport is located in the Isla Verde district of Carolina, approximately 4 miles east of San Juan's city center. It was named after Puerto Rico's first elected governor, Luis Muñoz Marín, but previously known as the Isla Verde International Airport.
SJU is the busiest airport in the Caribbean, handling over 13 million passengers in 2024, ahead of Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) in the Dominican Republic.
