Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) is by far the busiest airport in the state of Utah and a major gateway to the Intermountain West and the West Coast. SLC is the fifth-biggest hub for Delta Air Lines, which is the dominant airline at the airport.

The airport is located 4 miles (~6 km) west of Downtown Salt Lake City. It has just 1 terminal.
In 2024, SLC handled over 28 million passengers, setting a record. It is among the 25 busiest airports in the USA. The busiest routes from SLC were to neighboring states like Denver, Colorado, Phoenix, Arizona, and Las Vegas, Nevada.
Major Airlines - Delta Air Lines
SLC is a major hub for Delta Air Lines, which accounts for over 55% of all traffic. Delta operates more than 6000 flights per month to over 100 destinations in the USA, North and South America, Asia, and Europe.

Many of Delta’s regional flights are operated by its subsidiary, Delta Connection.
The next airline with the highest market share, serving approximately 15% of all passengers at SLC, is SkyWest Airlines. You will likely not see flights marketed by the company, as nearly all of its flights are subcontracted from Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta, and United.

These carriers also rank as the largest at Salt Lake City, offering hundreds of flights daily to their respective hubs across the continent.
Several low-cost carriers also provide services at SLC. The ones with the most flights are Frontier, Spirit, and JetBlue.
The airport also serves a growing number of foreign carriers, including Aeromexico, KLM, WestJet, and Air Canada.

Terminal Layout and Gates of SLC
Salt Lake City Airport has just one terminal divided into two linear concourses, A and B. They are connected via an underground tunnel airside, allowing transfers without re-clearing security.
Concourse A was recently expanded to 47 gates. Delta Air Lines is the main airline operating from this concourse.
Concourse B includes 46 gates as of the most recent phase of the airport’s expansion plan. All other airlines use Concourse B.
There is a single security checkpoint and an additional checkpoint for international arrivals.

Connecting Flights and Transit at SLC
Airside connections between concourses A and B are efficient thanks to the two tunnels that connect them. There is no need to clear Security again. Do note that some walks, especially to far gates, can feel long.
Two flights under the same ticket (PNR), for example, with Delta Air Lines, are guaranteed, and even if you miss your second flight due to a tight connection, you will be put on the next available flight to your final destination.

The minimum connecting time at SLC is 45 minutes. However, especially if an international flight is involved, allow at least 60 minutes.
