Stuttgart Airport (STR), officially Flughafen Stuttgart - Manfred Rommel, is the international airport serving Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany.
The airport lies about 12 km south of Stuttgart’s city centre on the Filderebene and handles domestic, European, and a few long-haul flights.

It is the largest airport in the state. STR handled just over 9 million passengers in 2025, ranking as the seventh busiest in Germany.
Major Airlines - Eurowings
Eurowings is the dominant carrier at Stuttgart with the largest share of passenger traffic. This German low-cost airline is a subsidiary of Lufthansa and offers direct flights to over 80 destinations.

Other budget airlines at STR include Wizz Air and Vueling.
The other major German carriers, Lufthansa and Condor, also fly direct to and from Stuttgart Airport.

SunExpress, a German-Turkish joint venture, is a popular airline for flights between Stuttgart and more than 15 cities in Turkey, as is Pegasus Airlines.
Leisure operators are important for Stuttgart, especially in the summer. TUI fly Deutschland is the largest leisure airline at STR and offers flights to nearly 20 destinations. Corendon Airlines and AJet also fly to Turkey during the high season.
SunExpress, Turkish Airlines, TUI fly, Pegasus Airlines — major scheduled and leisure operators.

Traditional network airlines at STR include KLM, Aegean, British Airways, SAS, SWISS, and Austrian, among others.
Stuttgart Airport hosts a wide variety of carriers serving more than 120 destinations with roughly 25 airlines operating scheduled passenger flights.
Daily flights link Stuttgart to German hubs like Berlin, Frankfurt, and Munich, European capitals and holiday spots, and seasonal long-haul services to sea&sun destinations.
Terminal Layout and Gates
The airport comprises four interconnected terminals (1 through 4) with a common airside area. In total, there are 70 boarding gates and over 100 check-in counters spread across the terminals.
Terminal 1: One of the main landside halls. This is the terminal with the most check-in counters and services. It serves airlines like AJet, British Airways, SunExpress, TUI, and Turkish Airlines.
Terminal 2: A smaller facility sandwiched between the main halls of Terminals 1 and 3. It serves mainly Air France, KLM, Vueling, and Wizz Air.
Terminal 3: The most modern terminal with numerous airlines. This is the second main landside hall, and it’s east of T1 and T2. It is mainly used by Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partners.
Terminal 4: A simpler hall in a separate building but connected via a covered corridor. It is largely used for seasonal charter flights.
Even though it’s technically split into four terminals, Stuttgart Airport is not too big and is easily manageable. All terminals are connected airside so that you can access all gates after security. This also makes connecting flights easy and transits seamless.

There isn’t a designated area for non-Schengen flights, but Passport Control will prevent you from going back to the general airside area.
The public area of the terminal is open 24/7.
Connecting Flights and Transit
Due to its compact layout and unified airside area, transfers at Stuttgart Airport are efficient compared with larger hubs.
Your experience at the airport will depend on your origin and destination and can be summarized as follows:
Schengen to Schengen: No checks whatsoever. Proceed to your next gate.
Schengen to Non-Schengen: Clear Passport Control and proceed to your next gate.
Non-Schengen to Schengen: Clear Passport Control and a Security check, then proceed to your next gate.
Non-Schengen to Non-Schengen: Remain airside to avoid Passport Control. You will need to go through a Security check again, then proceed to your next gate.
The guidance above assumes you have connecting flights under the same reservation (same PNR code). Self-transfers may require additional checks, and you must re-check your luggage yourself if you have any.

Longer layovers may allow you to check out the best things to do in Stuttgart.

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout all terminals. Connect to “AIRPORT-FREE-WIFI” and open your browser, which will automatically redirect you to the welcome page. Click “Go Online” to start browsing.

Alternatively, you can take the Flughafen Bus, which is an affordable option for getting to the airport from different parts of the city. Bus tickets cost €2.60. The Stuttgart Airport Busterminal (SAB) is under the P14 car garage, between Flughafenstraße and Terminal 4.
There is also a night bus - Route N8. It connects Stuttgart Airport with Schlossplatz and is very handy for early flights or late arrivals.
If you need a private form of transport, taxis are readily available on the Arrivals Level, directly in front of Terminal 1. Fares to the city center are typically around 30-45 EUR.
Similarly, ridesharing is popular with Uber and SIXT Ride, both offering services at the airport.
Private transfer from STR to cities in the region can be organized here.
If you’d like more freedom and will explore more areas of Germany, renting a car may be a smart choice. Major rental companies like Avis, Hertz, Europcar, and Enterprise operate onsite and are located on the Arrivals Level of Terminal 3, next to the Baggage claim exits.
