Salzburg W. A. Mozart Airport (SZG) is Austria's second-busiest airport. It handles mostly point-to-point direct flights.
During the summer, charter airlines bring holidaymakers to seaside resorts in Southern Europe and Northern Africa, while the winter months bring winter sports enthusiasts to Austria’s Alps, particularly the Ski Amadé region, Zell am See, Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Obertauern, Kitzbühel, and numerous resorts in Tyrol.
The airport is located 4 km west of Salzburg's UNESCO-listed Old Town, also very close to the border with Germany and just 1.5 hours by car from Munich.
Major Airlines - Eurowings
Salzburg is a hub for Eurowings. The airline flies year-round to several cities in Germany, including Berlin, Düsseldorf, and Hamburg, and popular holiday destinations such as Hurghada in Egypt. The airline offers many more routes during the summer, especially to sea & sun hotspots in Greece, Italy, and Spain.
Lufthansa operates an important route to its main hub in Frankfurt. Multiple daily flights allow you to connect onwards to hundreds of destinations around the globe.

Similarly, British Airways, Turkish Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines, Transavia, and FlyDubai offer year-round flights to their hubs (London, Istanbul, Copenhagen, Paris, and Dubai).
Many new routes open up during the colder months due to ski tourism. Airlines such as Jet2.com and TUI Airways connect the largest cities in the UK with the ski slopes of the Northern Alps.

Airlines that offer seasonal flights both during the winter and during the summer include easyJet and Ryanair, both very popular low-cost airlines in Europe.

Dining Options at SZG
Salzburg Airport may not be a huge hub with dozens of restaurants, but the few that exist offer surprisingly good options.
The Marktrestaurant is a self-service cafeteria in the public area of Terminal 1 and one of the most popular places to grab a bite before a flight. It’s open from 10 AM to 2:30 PM on weekdays and 8 AM to 9 PM on weekends.
After Security, the equivalent is the Marktcafé, where you can get a cup of coffee or a pastry. It’s always open according to flight schedules.
Other cafes in the public area of Terminal 1 include So Coffee and Bakery & Cake Shop. The Das Wolfgang restaurant and bar wraps up the available options for those without boarding passes. It’s on the observation deck and open from 11:30 AM to 9 PM.

Transport to and from the airport
Salzburg Airport is served by various public buses that connect it to Salzburg City, Salzburger Land, Tyrol, and Bavaria (Germany).
Most useful for travelers are Bus Routes 2 and 10, which go directly to central Salzburg, stopping at Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (the main railway station) and key places in the city center.
Tickets cost 2.40 EUR, valid for 60 minutes within Salzburg. Purchasable only from the ticket machines at stations or online. Tickets bought from the driver are only single-journey and cost 3 EUR.

The following buses serve regional destinations in the province:
Postbus 260 serves Bad Reichenhall, Unken, Lofer, St. Martin, Weißbach, Saalfelden, Maishofen and Zell am See. Connect to bus 4012 at Lofer to reach St. Johann and Kitzbühel in Tyrol.
Bus No. 180 serves Wals, Grossgmain, and Bad Reichenhall.
Bus No. 181 serves Wals, Grünau, and Walserberg Staatsgrenze.
Bus No. 270 serves Eben P+R but only on Saturdays during the winter.
These buses all start their journeys from Salzburg Main Station before stopping at the airport and continuing onwards. Tickets cost 4.70 EUR from a ticket machine or online, otherwise 6.40 EUR from the driver.
Taxis are always available at SZG, just outside Arrivals. More than a dozen taxi companies are certified for rides to/from the airport. You can get short 10-15 minute rides to Salzburg as well as private transfers to ski resorts. You can find more information about private transfers from SZG here.
Renting a car is particularly popular and the most convenient option, especially if you want to explore more of the Austrian Alps, Bavaria, Hallstatt, Zell am See, or the Salzkammergut lake district. Most of the largest car rental companies in the world have desks in the Arrivals area of Salzburg Airport, where you can directly rent a car. During the high seasons in both winter and summer, it’s wise to book online beforehand to secure availability.
Parking at SZG
If you’re just dropping off or picking up someone without parking, you may use the Kiss & Fly zone for up to 10 minutes for free. Note that it charges a hefty 4.30 EUR per 10 minutes after that period.
