Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP) - Buenos Aires' main domestic airport

Aeroparque Jorge Newbery is one of the two main airports serving Buenos Aires in Argentina. In this guide, you will find all the information you will need about the airport's terminal, airlines, lounges, dining options, transportation, parking, nearby hotels, and other available services.

Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP) is the primary domestic airport of Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. It also handles many regional flights and is the country’s busiest airport. If you’re interested in Buenos Aires’ primary international airport, which receives most long-haul flights, check out our guide about Ministro Pistarini (Ezeiza) International Airport (EZE).

The Aeroparque is located along the Río de la Plata waterfront, just 3 km from central Buenos Aires. It is within one of the city’s most prominent neighborhoods, Palermo.

AEP handles around 17-19 million passengers annually, ranking among Latin America’s top 10 busiest airports.

Major Airlines - Aerolíneas Argentinas

Aerolíneas Argentinas is by far the largest airline at AEP, which is its primary domestic hub. It offers frequent flights to the largest airports in Argentina, as well as over 30 destinations in neighboring countries in South America.

The other two airlines that use Aeroparque as a hub are Flybondi and JetSMART, both serving the low-cost segment with direct flights to dozens of cities in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Chile.

Foreign airlines that fly to and from AEP from their hubs in Brazil, Paraguay, and Chile include Gol Linhas Aéreas (Brazil), LATAM (Brazil, Chile, and Perú), Paranair, and Sky Airline (Chile and Perú).

There are no long-haul services at AEP, as they use Ezeiza Airport in the southwest of Buenos Aires. The longest scheduled flight from the airport is offered by Avianca to Bogotá, Colombia.

FlyBondi flies several routes to/from Aeroparque, Buenos Aires.

Terminal Layout and Gates

Aeroparque Airport has just one terminal spread over two levels and three Sectors (A, B, and C). There are 26 departure gates in total.

The airport is relatively small compared to international hubs. Walking from the Security checkpoint to the furthest gates takes about 8 minutes.

There is a separate immigration and security area for international departures.

If you’re flying domestically, even just 75 minutes in advance will be enough time to make your flight. For international departures, factor in at least 90 minutes.

However, if you’re connecting to or from a long-haul international flight, you will have to transfer to Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza), which is about a 60-80-minute road journey.

Free Wi-Fi and other services

Aeroparque Airport provides free WiFi throughout the terminal. Connect to the “AA_2000” network and accept the terms and conditions on the welcome page that will open automatically. There are no time limits, and the network is fast enough for most ordinary needs.

Other passenger services at AEP include:

  • ATMs: Banco Nación, HSBC, and Santander have machines in Arrivals.

  • Pharmacy: Located in the public area and open between 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM.

  • Luggage wrapping: Available in Departures.

  • Information desk: In the Arrivals Hall.

  • Fast Pass: Costs 30.000 ARS and allows you to use a separate lane at Immigration and Security.

  • Chapel: Located on the ground floor.

JetSmart is one of the most popular low-cost airlines in Argentina.

Lounges at Aeroparque

A big drawback of Aeroparque Airport is that the lounges are before Security and Immigration (landside), so once you cross them, you can no longer stay in any lounge. Thus, you also need to factor in the time these checks take when leaving a lounge to go to your gate.

The main lounge at AEP is operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas. You can find it on the Ground floor in the public area, between the Check-in hall and the food court. This lounge is open from 6:15 AM to 10:45 PM every day and welcomes Diamond members of the airline. It offers snacks and refreshments, TV, and Wi-Fi.

If you aren’t flying with Aerolíneas Argentinas, you can instead visit the AMAE Lounge on the Ground floor in the public area, between the check-in hall and the food court. It’s open 24/7 and welcomes passengers holding lounge membership passes, such as Priority Pass, DragonPass, Lounge Key, and On Pass, traveling on domestic or international flights. Services include healthy snacks, complimentary coffee and a bar, reading materials, and comfortable seating.

There is one more AMAE Lounge, which only serves domestic flights, located near Gate 1 in the Domestic pre-boarding area. It is open from 6:30 AM to 10:00 PM, daily. It offers similar amenities and accepts many lounge membership programs.

Both lounges make it possible to enter by paying 46 USD at the door for a 3-hour stay.

Last but not least, there is a VIP Club Lounge on the Ground floor in the public area. It costs 28.000 ARS to enter and is open between 6:00 AM and 10:30 PM.

Dining Options at AEP

Jorge Newbery Airport houses various dining establishments for different tastes and needs. They range from specialized restaurants, modern Argentine cafés, and bakeries to fast food and quick-serve eateries. There are also several vending machines throughout the terminal. Prices are quite a lot higher than in the city, but you’re paying for the location.

Dining options that remain open 24/7 include McDonald's, Burger King, Atalaya, Florida Garden, Le Pain Quotidien, Outback Steakhouse, and Tienda de Sabores.

Some of the better-rated restaurants and cafes at AEP are:

  • Hard Rock Cafe: In Domestic Departures on the Upper floor.

  • El Club de la Milanesa: On the Upper floor of the Public Area. Best for brunch or comfort meals.

  • Fausto Wine Bar and Coffee: In the Check-in Area.

  • La Cabrera Al Paso: On the Ground floor of the Public Area.

  • Mostaza: On the Ground floor of the Public Area.

  • Outback Stakehouse: On the Upper floor of International Departures.

  • Tostado Cafe Club: In the Public Area of Domestic Departures.

Transport to and from the airport

The Aeroparque has a very central location - just 3 kilometers from the busiest parts of Buenos Aires.

Multiple public bus lines (called “colectivos”) stop in front of sectors A and B on Rafael Obligado Avenue. This is the cheapest way to travel within Buenos Aires. It’s not intended for tourists, although they can use it if they purchase a SUBE card before boarding (the Open 25 HS convenience stores at AEP sell it). Useful lines include:

  • Line 8: Connects Aeroparque Airport (AEP) with Ezeiza Airport (EZE).

  • Line 33: Runs to several downtown and surrounding areas, such as Retiro, La Boca, Mt. Chingolo, and San José.

  • Line 34: Connects Aeroparque with Liniers.

  • Line 37: Goes to Plaza Italia, Congreso, and Lanús.

  • Line 45: Goes to Retiro, Downtown, Constitución, Lanús, and Remedios de Escalada

  • Line 160: Its route includes stops at Plaza Italia, Pompeya, Lanús, Lomas de Zamora, and Claypole.

  • Line 166: Connects the airport with Palermo and Morón.

Normally, the fares are around 350-600 ARS, with the frequency of most buses between 10 and 15 minutes.

Aeroparque Airport is well-intergrated into Buenos Aires' public transportation network.

Tienda León operates a shuttle bus with larger, air-conditioned buses, targeting tourists. It has sales counters in the Arrivals areas of Sectors A1 and A2. Routes include:

  • To Terminal Madero: Costs 6500 ARS and runs every hour from 6:40 AM to 10:30 PM.

  • To Terminal Obelisco: Costs 6500 ARS and runs every hour from 6:30 AM to 11:30 PM.

  • To Carlos Pellegrini Terminal: Costs 6500 ARS and runs every 45 minutes from 7:15 AM to 11:00 PM.

  • To Ezeiza Airport: Costs 14000 ARS, runs every 45 minutes from 7:15 AM to 11:00 PM, with additional services at 0:30 AM and 1:30 AM, and takes 80-110 minutes to travel between the airports.

Neo Traslados is another tourist shuttle bus operator that maintains routes between Aeroparque and Ezeiza, Plaza Italia/Retiro, and Obelisk. It is generally a little cheaper than the alternative (11500 ARS to Ezeiza and 4250 ARS to other destinations) and has ticket stands in the public area of domestic arrivals.

Taxis and ride-hailing, such as Uber and Cabify, also remain an option. Both are readily available and offer similar prices of around 12000-15000 ARS to the central areas of Buenos Aires.

Remises, a popular Argentine private form of transportation, are also available for door-to-door service. Companies present at AEP include Transfer Express and Remis Trans Air.

Most long-distance buses depart from Terminal Retiro, but a few have made it possible to begin or end your journey at Aeroparque. Check out the schedules of Vía Bariloche and Grupo Flecha if you want to go to Rosario, Mar del Plata, Tandil, Paraná, San Pedro, Bahía Blanca, Necochea, Córdoba, and other cities in Argentina.

Parking at Aeroparque Airport

Aeroparque offers parking facilities located directly opposite the terminal. The hourly and daily rates are considered quite high, but you pay for convenience just as much as for the parking itself.

The main parking facility is a 5-level covered garage called South Parking, and another covered garage called River Parking, both serving short stays. For long stays, the main option is the Costa Salguero.

  • South Parking: Charges 11000 ARS per hour (the minimum time) or 65000 ARS per day. Offers discounts for longer stays (weekly or fortnightly). Has a 15-minute gratis period.

  • River Parking: Charges 10000 ARS per hour (the minimum time) or 75000 ARS per day. Has a 15-minute gratis period.

  • Costa Salguero: Best used for parking for at least 4 days, for which period the base rate is 145000 ARS. It’s located 4 km from Aeroparque and connected via a free shuttle. There are about 600 covered spaces, and they do fill up during busy periods, so prior reservation is paramount.

  • Drop & Go: The valet parking option allows you to drive up to the booth just before the entrance to the South Parking, give your keys to the attendant, and let them take care of everything else. Rates start at 64000 ARS per day.

Motorcycles can be parked for free in the South and River parking garages.

Hotels near Aeroparque Airport

There are no hotels inside the Terminal or at the airport, but given how close it is to the city center, staying super close to AEP is not strictly necessary even for early flights.

There are many hotels for different budgets in the Palermo and Recoleta neighborhoods, which are just 10 to 15 minutes away by taxi or no more than 25-30 minutes by one of the public buses.

One of the closest hotels to the airport is the Dazzler by Wyndham Polo, located 6 km away via the road.
