Major Airlines - Ryanair, Air France, Transavia

Marseille Airport is a focus city for Air France, the national carrier. It offers several daily domestic flights to Paris (CDG and ORY) and Lyon (LYS).

The airport is an operating base for the low-cost giant Ryanair. It is the airline with the most flights operating at MRS and offers connections to many European destinations plus additional seasonal flights.

Other low-cost airlines that serve MRS airport include Transavia, which focuses on the Middle East and North Africa region, and Volotea, which flies to many destinations in Southern Europe.

Full-service international airlines that operate at Marseille Airport include Austrian Airlines, British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, Royal Air Maroc, and Turkish Airlines.

In total, over 40 airlines have scheduled passenger flights to and from Marseille Airport. Find the full list here.

Terminal Layout of Marseille Airport

Marseille Provence Airport has two terminals. Most domestic and international flights depart from Terminal 1 while the budget carrier Ryanair takes up most of Terminal 2’s capacity.

  • Terminal 1: This terminal handles the majority of flights. It is the more modern one and handles a high volume of passengers. All full-service airlines use Terminal 1. It is divided into Hall A and Hall B. Floor 2 of Hall A is the only area of the airport open throughout the night. Additionally, gates are separated based on Schengen vs non-Schengen destinations.

  • Terminal 2: Dedicated primarily to low-cost carriers with Ryanair making up most of the flights. Terminal 2 is smaller and offers a more streamlined experience. All flights in T2 are intra-Schengen area.

The two terminals are their separate buildings and are not connected. Still, the walking distance between the two (albeit outside) is less than 150 meters.

Connecting Flights and Transit at MRS

Marseille Provence Airport has only point-to-point flights. It is not a hub for any airlines and thus not a transit airport.

This means that all connecting flights at MRS are separate bookings and transit is the responsibility of the traveler. You will have to clear Immigration (unless traveling within Schengen), re-check your luggage, and re-enter the Security zone of the airport for your next flight.

Nonetheless, the airport is relatively small, and if you intend to self-transfer, you don’t need more than an hour between flights to ensure you arrive on time.

Wi-Fi at Marseille Airport

The airport offers complimentary Wi-Fi throughout both terminals.

To connect, choose the SSID network “Airport-Free-Wifi” and follow the on-screen instructions.

Dining Options at Marseille Provence Airport

Marseille Airport doesn’t have the massive array of choices that big international airports offer but you will be able to find something to suit your taste.

Places to eat are located in both terminals and before as well as after Security.

Here are some popular dining options at MRS airport:

  • Starbucks: The Seattle coffeehouse serves hot and cold drinks in Terminal 2.

  • The travelers' canteen: A nice place to have fast food in Terminal 2.

  • Pokawa: Poke bowls and more. Find it in both terminals.

  • Le Centrale: A lively bar also serving light fare. Located in the International zone of T1.

  • Croquorico: A fast-casual concept that offers traditional and original croque-monsieur recipes. Located in the International zone of T1.

  • Emkipop: Ice cream and frozen desserts. Find in T1 after Security.

None of those establishments are open 24/7 but if you want to grab a snack after midnight, there are vending machines on the Ground Floor of Terminal 1 in both halls.

Lounges at MRS

Marseille Airport houses one lounge in the International Zone of Terminal 1.

It’s a relatively new lounge that opened in 2024 under the name Salon VIP. It’s accessible to Skyteam Platinum and Gold members and anyone who pays the 20 EUR fee to enter.

After its renovation in late 2024 (former name Cezanne Lounge), the lounge is a comfortable and modern hall with complimentary food and drinks, free wifi, bathroom and toilet facilities, and plenty of seating areas.

Transport to and from Marseille Provence Airport

Several transportation options connect the airport to Marseille and other destinations in Provence as well as the whole French Riviera.

Your public transport options include:

  • Train: Perhaps the simplest public transport option is to take the free airport shuttle (every 15 minutes) from platform 5 in front of the terminals to the Vitrolles City train station. There, you can take a train to Marseille-Saint Charles station or to other destinations in France, such as Avignon, Nice, Montpelier, and Toulon.

  • Buses and Shuttles: Regular shuttle services link the airport to Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, and other nearby cities.

Gare de Marseille-Saint-Charles

For private transport, you have the following options:

  • Taxis: You will find taxi ranks outside Terminal 1. Only take taxis from the official queue at the airport to avoid scams or getting overcharged. All rides are metered and the fares depend on the type of vehicle and the time of day. As an estimate, a trip to Marseille city center will cost you around 50-60 EUR.

  • Car Rentals: Several car rental agencies operate within the airport between 7 AM and 11:30 PM. Some of them include popular brands like Avis, Budget, Europcar, and Hertz.

If you’d like to get a private transfer, see your options here.

Parking at MRS Airport

In total, there are 8 car parks available at Marseille Airport. You can pre-book your stay at either of them online on the official airport website or turn up and park based on availability.

  • P1, P4, P6: Premium covered parking areas located close to the terminals, and more suitable for brief stays. The first hour costs 6.60 EUR and the first day is capped at 20 EUR.

  • P5: A classic car park option suitable for long-term parking with affordable rates. Hourly rate of 5.60 EUR and a daily cap of 15.50 EUR.

  • P3, P7, P8: Eco car parks with good value for money. Hourly rate of 4.80 EUR and a daily cap of 11.50 EUR. Note that P8 is only available for prepaid online parking.

  • Super Eco: The cheapest car park for stays longer than 4 days with rates as low as 5 EUR per day. It’s a bit further from the terminal building though.

For quick drop-offs and pick-ups, the Kiss & Fly zone right in front of the terminals can be entered up to twice a day for up to 8 minutes for free. Every minute after is 1 EUR though.

Additionally, the PA and PB Minute Parking Zones offer free parking for the first 20 minutes and are located just 2 minutes on foot from the terminals.
