Porto Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO), or simply Porto Airport, is the second-busiest airport in Portugal after the capital’s Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport.
The airport is located in Maia (Vila Nova da Telha), about 11 km north-west of the Porto city centre. It is operated by VINCI/ANA under the Porto Airport concession.

In 2024, Porto Airport handled nearly 16 million passengers, making it the busiest airport in northern Portugal and one of the top 40 European airports.
Major Airlines - easyJet, Ryanair
OPO is a major base for several low-cost carriers and sees flights by many of the biggest full-service operators in Europe and beyond.
Both easyJet and Ryanair, two of the largest LCCs in Europe, use Porto Airport as a base. Ryanair flies to the most destinations from Porto, nearly 70, and operates more than 1000 flights per month. easyJet also has a large market share of the passengers flying through Porto with its 600+ monthly flights to around 30 destinations.

The Dutch low-cost Transavia, the German low-cost Eurowings the Spanish low-cost airlines Vueling and Volotea also fly to and from Porto, thus offering budget-conscious travelers plenty of options.
Porto Airport is a focus city for TAP Air Portugal, the flag carrier, which also has a notable presence, serving 10-15 destinations depending on the season with a total of 400+ flights per month.
Other European carriers at OPO include major flag carriers like Aegean Airlines, Air France, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, SWISS, and others. They normally fly to their major hubs throughout the Old Continent, but sometimes offer flights to some of their smaller operating bases.

Other major airlines (non-European) that fly to Porto are Air Canada, Delta Air Lines, Ethiopian Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, and Turkish Airlines.
Porto Airport’s busiest routes include domestic flights to Lisbon and Funchal (Madeira), but also flights to European capitals such as Paris, Madrid, London, and Amsterdam.

Terminal Layout and Gates
Porto uses a single modernized Terminal 1 for all commercial traffic. All facilities, including 48 check-in desks, security checkpoints, 22 gates, numerous shops, and lounges, are located within it. The terminal was renovated in 2006.
Schengen and non-Schengen passengers are handled via dedicated corridors.
Connecting Flights and Transit
Because OPO is a relatively compact single-terminal airport, connections are generally not complicated.
Moreover, it is not a major hub for any full-service airline, with the majority of flights being point-to-point flights by low-cost carriers. Thus, most transfers are informal, i.e., not guaranteed, by the airline, and require that you re-check your luggage yourself.
For domestic/inter-Schengen connections, 45-60 minutes between flights is normally enough if you have only carry-on luggage. Otherwise, you will need additional time to re-check your luggage.
For Schengen to non-Schengen transfers, allow at least 90 minutes to have enough time for Immigration, Security, and potentially a visit to the check-in desks.
If you have a few hours to spare between flights, it is worth it to hop over to the city to check out the best things to do in Porto.
Wi-Fi & Other Passenger Services
Unlimited free WiFi is available across the terminal. To connect, select the “_VINCI Airports WiFi” network. This will automatically open a splash page - if it doesn’t, launch your browser and it will load automatically. On that page, accept the Terms and Conditions and click “Connect”.
Other passenger services at Terminal 1 include:
ATMs in both Arrivals and Departures.
Currency exchange provided by Unicâmbio on Floor 0, before Security.
Santander Bank: located landside on the 3rd floor.
Family restrooms with baby-changing facilities: both before and after Security.
Pharmacy on the 3rd floor, Landside.
First aid on the ground floor, before Security.
CTT for postal and other services located on the Ground Floor before Security.
Lounges at OPO
Porto notably has the ANA Lounge run by ANA/VINCI, located airside in the departures concourse on the 3rd floor, between Gates 31 and 32.
This lounge is bookable for up to 3 hours, and all passengers are welcome upon payment of the 36 EUR fee. Priority Pass holders can enter for free. It is open daily from 04:00 to 21:00.
The ANA Lounge offers assorted snacks and drinks, including sandwiches, fruits, yogurt, Portuguese wines, and other alcoholic beverages, as well as premium wi-fi, charging points, and comfortable sofas with views of the runway.
Dining Options at Porto Airport
Porto’s terminal features around 15-20 restaurants and approximately 40 stores, as well as duty-free shopping options.
You’ll find local Portuguese brands, café chains, and fast-casual options concentrated in the airside departures concourse. Examples include:
A Francesinha: A restaurant for typical Portuguese cuisine and specialities like the famous francesinha sandwich.
Como: An urban brand with a wide variety of food offered - from sandwiches and salads, to ramen, desserts, and veggie options.

Transport to and from the airport
The fastest and cheapest option for transport between Porto and the airport is the Metro Line E (purple) from Aeroporto station to Trindade (city centre interchange), and Estádio do Dragão. Trains run every 20-30 minutes during the day, and the trip takes about 25–30 minutes.
You will need an Andante ticket or use your contactless bank card to pay for the ticket. Fares depend on distance - between 1.20 and 2.50 EUR.
A public transport alternative is the STCP/Resende buses, which serve the city centre and some of the suburbs. Timetables vary, but buses run early and late and provide a cheaper door-to-door alternative.
A notable bus line is the Resende #120, which links the airport to Guifões and São Gens.
A more convenient option, albeit slightly more expensive, is to take a shuttle. Several companies provide direct connections between OPO and Amarante, Braga, Chaves, Guimarães, Campanhã Intermodal Terminal in Porto, and Vila Real. Fares start at 6 EUR for a one-way trip to Porto. For private shuttles, see deals and book online here.
Metered taxis queue outside arrivals. Expect €30-€35 to central Porto for small taxis that fit up to 4 people. Luggage items larger than 55x35x20 cm incur an extra charge. Fares increase by 20% on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays as well as during the night, from 9:00 PM until 6:00 AM.
