Major Airlines - Transavia

Transavia is by far the airport's largest airline. The airline is a wholly-owned subsidiary of KLM and the largest low-cost carrier in the Netherlands. It flies to numerous Mediterranean holiday destinations, some year-round, some only seasonally.

Transavia is the dominant carrier at RTM.

Another popular airline is TUI fly Netherlands. The prime Dutch charter airline also flies to several destinations in Spain, Greece, and Turkey.

Other airlines with frequent scheduled flights to and from Rotterdam/The Hague include:

  • British Airways flies to London City Airport in the heart of the British capital, and is very suitable for business travelers

  • Pegasus Airlines and AJet, both of which fly to Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen (SAW).

  • Air Algérie flies to Algeria.

  • Air Arabia flies to Tangier in Morocco.

  • Animawings recently started direct flights to Romania.

Terminal Layout and Gates

Rotterdam Airport has just one terminal. It is a bit outdated, but also compact and rarely sees long queues.

The Ground Floor houses the Arrivals area, also including Baggage reclaim, customs control, and access to ground transportation.

The First Floor is the Departures area and includes all 16 check-in counters, the baggage drop-off points, and the one Security checkpoint. The airside area has several cafes and the 10 gates - 4 of which are for Schengen flights and 6 for international flights.

The landside area, also called the Central Hall, is open 24/7. However, the airside area is only open according to flight schedules.

Free Wi-Fi and other services

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal. It doesn’t require any registration; instead, all you need to do is accept the terms and conditions on the welcome splash page.

Other passenger services at RTM include:

  • ATMs: Several Dutch banks have cash machines in the landside area.

  • Currency exchange: GWK Travelex has a desk in Arrivals.

  • Information desk: Located in the Central Hall and available daily from 8 AM until the last flight.

  • Lost and found: Handled by the Information desk.

  • Smoking areas: Smoking is only allowed outside the terminal and on the terrace of Restaurant de Horizon (airside).

  • Baggage trolleys: Available in the main hall and parking areas at a 0.50 EUR refundable coin deposit.

Lounges at Rotterdam The Hague Airport

The only lounge at RTM Airport is the Premium Lounge Prima Vista, part of Aviapartner. It is located on the first floor in Departures, after the Security check - to reach, you can either use the stairs or the lift next to the Starbucks.

The lounge is open every day from 5:30 AM to 7 PM, though it may close earlier if all flights have departed.

Business, Silver, or Gold passengers of British Airways can get in for free. Everyone else can use Priority Pass, LoungeKey, DragonPass, or other eligible lounge passes, or just pay 34 EUR at the door.

Facilities include complimentary drinks, including alcoholic ones, hot and cold meals, pastries, workstations, free Wi-Fi, and large windows overlooking the apron.

Dining Options at RTM

If you want a drink or snack before Security, check out Kiosk 16 - a small convenience store that sells hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, salads, and other prepackaged food. Its opening hours are 5 AM to 8 PM.

After security, the largest venue is Restaurant The Kitchen, located in the departure hall and open from 5 AM until the last flight.

Starbucks is another option for a quick bite or a coffee, and is also open starting from 5 AM.

Transport to and from the airport

The RET Bus 33 is the most convenient way to travel between the airport and Rotterdam Centraal Station. The bus stops just 3 minutes from the terminal and runs every 15 minutes between 5:40 AM and 0:10 AM. Single tickets cost 1.08 EUR - you can pay by tapping your card inside the bus.

The same bus also reaches Meijersplein Metro Station, where you can transfer to Metro Line E for services to both Rotterdam city centre and The Hague. This is a faster way to reach The Hague than connecting at Rotterdam Central.

Outside the operating hours of the public bus, taxis are the only option. A ride to central Rotterdam takes around 30 minutes and costs 35-45 EUR. Uber and Bolt are also available in the Netherlands and usually offer prices as low as half those of regular taxis.

Parking at Rotterdam Airport

Rotterdam Airport provides 5 parking facilities within a 10-minute walk from the terminal. At four of these, you don’t need a reservation and can turn up, park, and pay the drive-in rates. Valet parking is also available.

  • P1 Business Parking: directly in front of the terminal and ideal for short stays. Hourly rates start from 10 EUR.
